Retinal vein occlusion is a blockage of the main vein in the retina. The blockage causes the walls of the vein to leak blood and excess fluid into the retina. When this fluid collects in the macula, vision becomes blurry. In most cases, the vision remains the same or worsens without treatment. (A few patients, with time, have a spontaneous improvement in vision).
